Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor Latest News & Update: ‘Money’ Puts A Stop To The Madness

Floyd Mayweather Jr. expectedly reacted to reports that he and Conor McGregor are close to facing off in a mega-fight. Seeing that things are getting out of hand, the “Flamboyant One” formally put a stop to the madness on Instagram, stating that the fight is nowhere close and that he would be the first one to announce it if ever.

Floyd Mayweather’s response follows a previous statement by UFC president Dana White who said that nothing is in the works. The whole Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight speculations ramped up recently thanks to a report from tabloid The Sun.

The report alleged that the UFC lightweight champion was on his way to Las Vegas to do an anti-bullying video, part of the sanctions imposed by the Nevada Sports Commissions for his water bottle-throwing incident involving Nate Diaz. With the latest jab, all hope of seeing a Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor match is back to where is started – thin air.

The past months have been nothing more than proverbial jabs sent by both personalities, all of which many consider as simply seeking attention. Mayweather made it clear (again) that he is happily retired and apparently has no plans to return to the ring. He was initially offered $25 million by White to face McGregor, something he alleges was nothing more than a bluff, ESPN reported. “Money” eventually countered that he would give McGregor $15 million to fight him.

Looking ahead, this fantasy fight involving Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor will remain but unlikely to prosper. Mayweather has been known to pick his fights well and make sure he is not left in a precarious position. The same goes with Conor McGregor who has been known to bark out of hand. He is expected to follow Mayweather’s response, more or less insulting invectives to keep the hype alive.
