NFL 2017 Latest News & Update: Colin Kaepernick Contemplating On Picking Up Player Option With 49ers

Until recently, it was previously believed that Colin Kaepernick would be opting out of his deal with the San Francisco 49ers to explore NFL free agency. That was until sources now reveal that the 29-year-old quarterback has not made any decision of whatsoever – meaning there is a chance he could play on with the revamped squad.

It is possible that Colin Kaepernick wants to sit down with the new men at the helm – general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan. The move makes sense considering he can first see if he fits with the new system or not. Seeing how Shanahan is expected to whip up the 49ers with a new set of offensives, Kaepernick could be a good fit.

Last week, a report from ESPN mentioned Colin Kaepernick as opting out of his contract. It wasn’t different from a previous story back in December which ultimately miffed the Wisconsin native. In fact, he even wanted to talk to the one who wrote the article, SF Gate reported. There is a big difference right now and Kaepernick wants to see first before he acts. In the event he does opt in, it is still no guarantee that the 49ers will keep him.

Though they Lynch and Shanahan have yet to decide on his fate, the fact that Colin Kaepernick owns a massive $16.9 million contract is appalling. With new management expected to clean house, ridding themselves of such for a more flexible team budget could happen, ProFootball Rumors suggested.

Kyle Shanahan is obviously on the prowl for a someone who can run his high-octane offense. Among the names mentioned include Jimmy Garoppolo, Matt Shaub, and Jay Cutler. Kaepernick has shown that he can be an offensive spark as well but his antics have become more popular than his play on the field. Right now, he has yet to make a decision though all that should clear up soon.
