NBA Trade 2017 Latest News & Updates: Los Angeles Lakers Pull The Trigger, Deal Lou Williams And Get Corey Brewer

The Los Angeles Lakers finally completed a deal to send Lou Williams to the Houston Rockets. In exchange, the Lakers get Corey Brewer plus a draft pick. The transaction finally puts a lid on where the 30-year-old Williams would land, not to mention giving some of the young Laker guns more responsibility on the offensive end.

With Williams out, the likes of D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, and Brandon Ingram can take more attempts. The only downside is that the Lakers lose someone unafraid to take the big shots when necessary. But then again, Williams wasn’t much of a big help with reference to the current standings of the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference.

For the Rockets, they get another gunner on the offensive end. Already loaded with James Harden, Eric Gordon, and Ryan Anderson, Williams is another player who is likely to come off the bench. By his play, the former Sixth Man of the Year should be a fit for coach Mike D’Antoni’s up-tempo brand of ball as the Rockets ramp up their NBA playoff run, Sports Illustrated reported. The Rockets also save some $1.2 million in salary with the trade deal.

As far as Corey Brewer is concerned, it will be interesting if he can find his game under Luke Walton. He has been inconsistent with the Rockets and is performing the opposite of Williams, CBS Sports reported. He has a chance at redemption, perhaps at least until the end of the season. If all else fails, Los Angeles may not be his final stop.

A key element in the trade is the draft pick the Lakers received. Though they are already oozing with young talent, getting more pawns in the rebuilding phase could come in handy. With massive changes within the Los Angeles camp, the changes could be part of Earvin “Magic” Johnson’s quest to bring back that winning tradition to Hollywood.
