Janet Jackson, 50, Pregnant With First Baby: Natural Or IVF Pregnancy?

The iconic singer Janet Jackson is pregnant with her first child with husband Wissam Al Mana just two weeks away from her 50th birthday. Jackson cancelled one of her tour last month with a note to her fans that she and her husband are planning a family.

An unnamed source noted that Jackson is in her second trimester and the singer and her husband had been visiting fertility specialist for quite some time, according to E Online. While Jackson is expecting her bundle of joy in less than a year, experts are doubtful whether the singer conceived naturally or she just had an IVF. Most specialists believe that it isn't an easy task for a woman to conceive naturally after the age of 45.

"When Janet Jackson says 'We decided to focus on our family' and two months later she's pregnant, it makes it look like that's all you need to do at age 49. It's not helpful for women who are struggling to conceive on their own," said IVF specialist and fertility expert Dr Devora Lieberman, from Sydney's Genea clinic, noted News.com.au. "All the time people say to me, 'Well, [John Travolta's wife] Kelly Preston fell pregnant at 47, why can't I?'"

IVF Australia's medical director Professor Peter Illingworth also backed up the possibility of IVF pregnancy in Jackson's case as he noted that women aged over 45 have least probability of conceiving naturally and the IVF with their own eggs haven't been very successful. He also noted that pregnancy after 45 years works with a young egg donor.

Jackson postponed her tour last month saying that she is planning a family and noted that she was asked by doctors to get some rest. The news that Janet Jackson is pregnant might have come as a shocking surprise to her fans as they wouldn't have been prepared for it just yet.

"We are in the second leg of the tour and there's been a sudden change and I thought it was important you be the first to know," said Jackson, reported Mirror. "My husband and I are planning a family so I'm going to have to delay the tour. Please, if you can, try and understand it's important that I do this now, I have to rest up, doctors orders, but I have not forgotten about you, I will continue the tour as soon as I possibly can."
