E'Layah Faith Pergues has a long and pretty name, but she came into the world with a birth weight of just 10 ounces. She was born 14 weeks early, and doctors, in fact, were not too sure whether she would survive.

"Our goal since her birth was to grow her as quickly and as safely as we could," said Dr. Andrew Herman, MD, neonatologist and chief medical officer at Levine Children's Hospital. The doctors blended formula and breast milk to support her development as well as growth and health, according to scienceworldreport.

Having achieved a weight of 5 pounds and 7 ounces at five months, she is back home for the first time. Having outgrown her preemie clothes, the baby is much stronger, almost 10 times her weight when she was born. So the all-day medical supervision has been removed at last.

"It's frustrating because you get hope and you think finally my baby is coming home," said her mother Megan Smith who was hovering around her bedside since birth. "After all this long time, today is the day."

Being too tiny for her birth, the baby was called "tater tot", among the smallest surviving babies ever viewed in the hospital, say doctors.

As her mother Megan Smith had a very high blood pressure and a couple of serious strokes during pregnancy, so the baby was afflicted by a premature birth and low weight, according to Value Walk.

For a couple of months, Smith was on bed rest, yet doctors decided to undertake an emergency Cesarean section when they detected that E'Layah was no longer moving inside the womb.

"She is a very busy little lady, always grabbing and pulling things and moving around," Smith said. "We are all very excited to be going home. It's been a long journey and we are looking forward to the next chapter."
