A woman from Massachusetts who thought she was dealing with abdominal pain from menopause found out that she was actually pregnant.

Judy Brown, 47, sought out medical care at Beverly Hospital emergency room on Wednesday after dealing with very painful abdominal cramps, WCVB5 reported. Doctors informed Brown and her husband, Jason that she was pregnant. She gave birth about an hour later.

"It's good news there's no blockage," Brown recalled the doctor saying. "You are pregnant and you are going to have her now!"

Brown added to ABC News, "It was a little bit scary getting into the hospital thinking something was really bad was going on. To understand and take in that was I pregnant and was about to go into labor ... it was very overwhelming."

Brown gave birth to her first child, an eight-pound two-ounce baby girl named Carolyn Rose.

Judy and Jason have been married for 22 years. They stated that throughout their marriage, their mentality when it came to children was, "if it happens, it happens."

Before finding out that she was having a baby, Brown thought that she was starting menopause. She also believed that her growing tummy was due to old age.

The new parents stated that their family and friends are going to lend them some supplies until they get settled in.

They have also stated that she will be their only child. Jason plans on getting a vasectomy.

"I will get the surgery before it even becomes a thought," he said.

Experts stated that women in their 40s should not forget that they can still get pregnant. To prevent surprises, it is safer to use contraception.

"Most physicians who see women in their 40s should be counseling them on [contraception], Dr. Kimberly Gecsi, an obstetrician and gynecologist at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, commented.

Dr. Gecsi added that it is possible for older women to never realize that they are pregnant despite the signs.
