Star Trek Actor Leonard Nimoy recently revealed on Twitter that he is suffering from lung disease. 

He wrote on Twitter that despite stopping smoking 30 years ago a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease had developed. He also urged his followers to "quit now." 

"I quit smoking 30 yrs ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP," the 82-year-old tweeted. 

Urging followers to quit smoking he said: "Smokers, please understand. If you quit after you're diagnosed with lung damage it's too late. Grandpa says learn my lesson. Quit now. LLAP" 

Nimoy's latest appearance on screen was last year in Star Trek Into Darkness in which he reprised Mr Spock, the Vulcan character he has been playing since 1966. 

He was the only actor from the original series that became the part of the reboot Star Trek. He played cameo parts as the elder Spock. He is also a great supporter of director JJ Abrams' vision for the new films and his ability to win over new audiences, reported BBC. 

Nimoy has also been the director of the two franchise's films - Search for Spock and Voyage Home. He was recently photographed being pushed in a wheelchair at a New York hospital, attached to breathing apparatus, according to BBC. 

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a term that points number of illness such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. COPD has affected millions of people around the world. 

The majority of cases are caused by smoking.
