A surprising number of people cheat on holiday, according to a new survey.

A new British survey reveals that one in 20 people have admitted to cheating on their partner while on holiday.

However, 3 percent of respondents say that "it doesn't count as cheating if you're on another continent," according to the survey.

The top destination for cheating abroad is Ibiza, with 39 percent of people saying that the place is where they'd be most likely to cheat. The island has also been named the place where couples are more likely to break-up with a partner, with 48 percent reporting that they'd break up with a partner.

The survey also found that over 51 percent of respondents would pick a vacation spot based on how romantic it is and whether they could tell interesting stories when they got home.

The survey also revealed that one in 20 respondents say they would choose a place like the Maldives that will make their friends jealous when it comes to destination weddings.

Researchers also found that 4 percent of people in the UK have broken up with their significant other while travelling with them on holiday.

One in four people would choose to go to a place like New York where they could "find themselves" and reflect after a break up, according to the survey.

"We wanted to understand where, given the choice, Brits would head around the world for the different elements of the 'journey of love' and the findings were certainly enlightening," said a spokesperson for travel comparison website KAYAK.com, who sponsored the survey, according to the Daily Mail.

"With January being a peak time for holiday bookings, Brits should take heed of the study, particularly if a partner suggests heading to Ibiza or Paris, as it could mean a break-up or proposal is on the cards," he added.
