Most people don't consummate their marriage on their wedding night, a new survey reveals.

The poll revealed that the most common reason was being the groom was too drunk to have sex.

Other reasons for not making love on their wedding night include the bride falling asleep, the bride being too drunk or having an argument before the wedding reception ended.

The survey, which included 2,138 people who got married in the past three years, revealed that 52 percent of people admitted to not making love in their wedding night and 17 percent waited for more than three days after the ceremony.

Of the respondents who did not make love on their wedding night, 24 percent said it was because the groom was too drunk, 16 percent said it was because the bride was too tired and fell asleep and 13 percent said it was because the bride was too drunk.

The survey also revealed that 11 percent of people had to take care of their children and 9 percent admitted that they had had an argument before the wedding reception ended.

Another 9 percent of couples spent their wedding might travelling to their honeymoon destination and 7 percent stayed up all night having fun with wedding guests.

"The emphasis of wedding night sex for married couples is no longer a huge factor," said George Charles, marketing director of Voucher Codes Pro, which conducted the survey, according to Daily Mail.

"It may be that the stress and pressure of organizing a wedding takes the main priority, especially considering such a large proportion of couples have been living together for years," Charles added.
