Doctors have suggested that women should aim to have children before turning 35.

During the recent British Science Festival in Newcastle, a team of doctors advised that a woman should aim to start her family before she turns the age of 35. The reason stated was that the fertility declines sharply after this point.

They also said that there was no way of reversing the declining fertility. Experts warned that many women wrongly believe that procedures such as IVF could prolong their declining fertility.

“The most important message is for women to have their babies before the clock strikes 12. I would be getting worried about my daughter if she hadn’t had a child by 35,” said professor Mary Herbert, one of the Britain’s leading reproductive biologists.

The Newcastle University experts also said that women should not use their career as an excuse to avoid pregnancy, as woking life doesn’t get easier with age.

“We all plan families now, use contraception. Family planning is often seen as a way of avoiding teenage pregnancies, avoiding people being pregnant when they don’t want to be because it doesn’t fit in with their life or social life or whatever else. But family planning has to include when you are going to have your children as well, ” said Jane Stewart, an IVF doctor at the Bewcastle Fertility Centre.

Dr. Stewart also emphasized that if women are not made aware of the risks delaying motherhood, they may later bitterly regret their decision.

‘If you look back and regret it, it will haunt you," she said.
