"9-Year-Old" Mexican Mom's True Age Revealed, Baby's Father Identified
Mexican officials said Wednesday that the young girl known as "Dafne" who gave birth to a daughter two weeks ago is in fact 12 or 13 years old and not nine like her mother had previously claimed.
Government officials have also conducted DNA tests to reveal the true identity of the baby's father after they were originally told that the baby's father was Dafne's 17-year-old boyfriend. Authorities reported that Dafne's 44-year-old stepfather is in fact the real father of the girl's child and not her 17-year-old teenage boyfriend.
The Daily Mail reported that multiple sources had said that it was "highly likely" that Dafne was not the age her mother claimed she was. Doctors had suspected that the girl's body was older and more mature than an average 9-year-old body, and later an anthropological study of the girl revealed that she is actually between 12 and 13 years old.
Reports suggest that Dafne's mother may have lied about her daughter's true age to protect Dafne's privacy or that she may have been trying to get her into school for the first time as Dafne has never been to school, according to the Daily Mail.
However, another more chilling reason could have been that Dafne's mother, who neighbors claim is a prostitute, may have been trying to turn her daughter into a sex worker too as a nine-year-old girl could get paid more from clients than a teenager.
Dafne's baby daughter was delivered via C-section on January 27 weighing 2.7 kilograms, or 5.7 pounds.
Both Dafne and her daughter are doing fine and in healthy condition.
Past reports suggested that hospital workers sterilized Dafne without her mother's permission, but now it appears that the girl was only fitted with an implant that will stop her from getting pregnant. Once the implant is removed, she will be able to have another baby.
