'The Walking Dead' Season 7 Finale Is Lowest-Rated Ending Since 2012; Maggie's Fiery Speech

As the curtain finally fell on "The Walking Dead" Season 7 finale, Maggie Greene's emotional speech might have shaken up viewers. But more importantly, the viewership rating of the finale episode dropped at an all-time low since the Season 2 finale episode was aired.

"The Walking Dead" Season 7 Finale Episode Viewership Details

The long-running show on AMC that is telecast on FOX in the United Kingdom started way back in Oct. 2010. NME reported via Variety that the recently aired finale episode had a 5.4 rating among the demographic 18-49 and viewership strength of 11.8 million viewers.

On the other hand, the opening episode of season 7 had about 17 million viewers with a rating of 8.4. However, "The Walking Dead" Season 7 had about 33 percent decline in its viewership ever since it premiered. This indicates that the show is being favored less by viewers as compared to its start.

Although, despite the decrease, its finale episode did not have the lowest rating. In 2012, The finale episode of season 2 earned a 4.7 rating and only 9 million viewers tuned in.

"The Walking Dead" Season 7 Finale Review

The finale episode concluded with Glenn's widow and the mother of his child giving a fiery speech. Maggie came out in the open and defined the murder of her husband as the death of a kind human by a cruel guy. In the last six months, the most popular series in the cable has taken the viewers to some amazing locations and got them introduced to some unusual characters, Rolling Stone reported.

In other news, Scott M. Gimple, the showrunner has declared that he intends that his show should air for two decades. In 2013, Gimple became the showrunner for the AMC series when it was in its fourth season. He is hopeful that the show will continue for at least 13 years more so that it airs till 2030.

"The Walking Dead" Season 8 will premiere in Oct. 2017. It will be the 100th episode of the show.
