Sexual intercourse and sense of humor, according to a new research, are two of the keys to a happy marriage. A recent study reveals that sex between couples produces a bonding effect that lasts for several days. This effect can help boost long-term relationship satisfaction among couples, especially married ones.

Several studies have been conducted to identify how sexual intercourse can help in increasing the bond between couples. However, most married couples do not engage in sexual activities every day or regularly. Data from the International Society of Sexual Medicine reveals that only 21 percent of married men and 24 percent of married women have sex on 4 or more days each week, the Medical News Today cited.

Recent studies reveal that a couple experiences a period of sexual satisfaction after sex and keeps them bonded to their partner for at least 24 hours. Regular sex is one of the keys to a happy marriage due to the bond that is developed during and after the sexual activity.

This bond can help boost a marriage for the long term. The results were analyzed based on two studies that included a total of 214 newlywed couples. Couples that had regular sexual activity showed better relationship satisfaction, marital contentment, and partner satisfaction after four to six months of follow-up assessment.

U.K.-based dating coach James Preece reveals that a shared sense of humor between couples can be considered as the number one trait that a couple must have for long-term relationship success. He quotes, "When this is in alignment, you'll be able to see the funny side of most situations and generally be more relaxed about what life may throw at you. Any arguments can be diffused and you'll appreciate each other much more," Men's Health reported.

Partners should have an "affiliative" humor to make a relationship last happy. This type of humor boosts happiness, brings people together and improves a person's general well-being and can be considered as one of the keys to a happy marriage.

Those couples, married or not, who can find things to laugh about together can help them form a natural bond and become a stronger couple. Intimately bonding through sexual activity, as proved by science, can also increase the chances of a longer, happier and contented married life, through the bond developed between couples.
