"Lucifer" Season 3 will premiere after the release of four standalone episodes next year. In the latest news, the show decided to shorten the run of "Lucifer" Season 2.

New TV Schedule Ahead Of "Lucifer" Season 3

Futon Critic initially posted on the schedule update. Reportedly, the show will only follow an 18-episode arc than the original order of 22 episodes. The season 2 finale is now slated for a May 29, 2017 release date.

The second installment of the comic-book inspired series will return on May 1 after the Jan. 30 hiatus. They will release the last four episodes by the 2017-2018 Fall TV Season.

"Lucifer" Season 2 only has 18 episodes for the current storyline, TV Line exclusively reported. EP Joe Henderson defended the show's move over scheduling reasons. He pointed out that FOX "loved the show" but they did not have any extra slot for them.

What Can Happen In "Lucifer" Season 3 And Its Four Standalone Episodes?

"Lucifer" Season 3 will not be affected by the remaining episodes, which will air this fall. Henderson also revealed their plans for the TV series on Twitter.

These episodes will enable them to "play around a bit." The crew will also have the opportunity to introduce new elements before the third season."

Despite this, the "Lucifer" EP noted the episodes will not be "100% standalone." They will still pick up with the current events. But the special set will focus more on the stories of the characters.

Lucifer's First Trip To LA In A Flashback Scene

Last December, TV Line also discovered more details about this news. Henderson told the outlet about a flashback scene before "Lucifer" Season 3.

According to him, one of the episodes will feature the pilot version of Lucifer (Tom Ellis). The latter, who will arrive in Los Angeles, will make his mark in the human world for the first time.
