Prepare to dive into the Matrix once again. Warner Bros. is reportedly in early preparations for the possibility of redoing the well-loved franchise "The Matrix."

Talk has been rife but Warner Bros. still has not made a comment. The Hollywood Reporter account of the details indicates that the studio has tapped Zak Penn who has worked on Marvel films, to write a story treatment for the relaunch of "The Matrix". The Wachowski brothers wrote and directed the original "The Matrix" and its two sequels.

The "The Matrix" reboot pre-production has not indicated if the original cast will reprise their roles, or at the very least if they will participate in the new film. Keanu Reeves, who played the role of Neo in the original "The Matrix", said that he will only join the new project if the creators of the original franchise will still direct the movie.  This potentially presents a problem though as the Wachowski brothers are not in any way involved in the new development and their participation is not certain, The Huffington Post reported.

"The Matrix" was revolutionary when it was released in 1999. They pioneered the use of the slow-motion "bullet time" effect that heavily inspired imitations in subsequent movies. The reaction to "The Matrix" reboot is mixed though. Critics are wary that the reboot will not capture the original's feel but others also want the franchise to develop new material as the original "The Matrix" presents an amazing potential in storytelling. The Warner Bros . plan to reboot "The Matrix" is similar to Disney's model of developing new material for "The Star Wars" franchise.

Michael B. Jordan's name was also floated as the studio's pick to headline in "The Matrix" reboot. His role and the story though still is too early to tell as the production still in the idea stages. "The Matrix" story was followed by "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions" in 2003. The whole franchise has earned a total of $1.6 billion worldwide.
