"Game of Thrones" Season 7 just became even more interesting. The "Shape of You" singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran was cast in a guest role that producers are remaining tight-lipped about. In the recent SXSW event in Austin, executive producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss announced that the "Divide" singer will be part of the upcoming "Game of Thrones" Season 7, which debuts on HBO this July 16.

Ed Sheeran Role Not Yet Known

USA Today reported that while the "Shape of You" singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran was cast in a guest role in "Game of Thrones" Season 7, the executive producers did not say what role he will play, or for how many episodes he will appear. This is not the first time Ed Sheeran has taken to television to showcase his acting talents. In fact, he has been part of FX's "The Bastard Executioner" back in 2015, and the film "Bridget Jones' Baby" in 2016.

This is also not the first time "Game of Thrones" welcomed a musical talent as a guest star on the show. Gary Lightbody of the band Snow Patrol and Will Champion from Coldplay also previously appeared in the HBO series. Now that singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran was cast in guest role in the upcoming "Game of Thrones" Season 7, fans are wondering what will take place, aside from the great war that is expected to occur this season.

Six Episodes For "GoT "Final Season

In other "Game of Thrones" Season 7 news, it seems that the producers have it all mapped out for the penultimate and last season of the show. According to Entertainment Weekly, Benioff and Weiss admitted that there will only be six episodes in the final season of the series, and that they have declined to be part of any "Game of Thrones" spinoffs that the network might cook up after the show ends next year.
