"Game of Thrones" Season 7 is finally set to air on July 16. It is expected to feature a great war, which could reportedly destroy Westeros.

"Game of Thrones" Season And Premiere, Revealed

After, numerous inordinate delays, HBO finally broke its silence on the premiere date of "Game of Thrones" season 7, according to Time. Most people expected this Emmy-winning fantasy hit to return to TV on its general release date during Apr., but this was delayed due to numerous weather issues in the shooting locales.

Until now, every time HBO was asked about the release date of "Game of Thrones" Season 7, they would only say "summer." The new release date in July is a push back on its regular Apr. release. The producers announced that there would be a delay\, so as to accommodate various production needs. 

As the release of the new season was being announced, HBO also released a teaser video. The teaser video shows all the major events of the whole series in a chronological order, starting with the rule of the dreaded Mad King and the devastation of House Siglis.

"Game of Thrones" Prequel In The Works? 

Nevertheless, the new teaser video does not have any fresh footage from the upcoming season. However, has a new dialogue from Jon Snow, "There is only one war that matters. The Great War. And it is here." 

On the other hand, "Game of Thrones" Season 7 will be a bit different, since it will feature seven episodes instead of the standard 10, according to IGN. The duration will still be the same, so fans can expect epic episodes in the new season. Season 7 is scheduled to be the penultimate season, which will be followed by the final six-episode season in 2018.

Meanwhile, HBO is rumored to launch a prequel series based on the world created by author George R.R. Martin. The exact release dates of the prequel series is not known, as yet.
