"Beauty and the Beast" received backlash from a Russian lawmaker after it was mentioned that the film promotes a "shameless propaganda of sin."  With the empowerment of the LGBT community and different point of views in regards to the issue, parents should be keen on helping their children understand the culture for them to eliminate judgment and to learn acceptance among their peers.

Emma Watson's upcoming film "Beauty and the Beast" was placed under boiling waters after a Russian lawmaker, Vitaly Milonov, sent a letter to Russia's Culture Minister, Vladimir Medinsky, stating that the movie is deemed inappropriate for its "gay propaganda" content, according to a news report published by Ria Novsti. CNN reported that the Milonov pointed out that the film has "elements of propaganda of homosexuality."

There are no updates in regards to the response of the Ministry of Culture yet, but the film would soon have its premiere on March 16, 2017. "Beauty and the Beast" was said to have a PG rating after the film's director, Bill Condon, mentioned that it will be having a gay moment.

Condon refers to the role of LeFou, Gaston's iconic sidekick, who is said to be secretly gay. The film featured the celebratory dance, just a few scenes before the ending. It was revealed that the dance would require the characters to change partners where LeFou will be paired with another man whom he embraced. Though it might not be a big deal for most, there are those who mentioned that they found it offensive.

LGBT-empowered TV shows have been gaining support and backlash at the same time. Though there are cartoons that feature the community, children might have a hard time understanding the LGBT culture; thus, parents should take time in explaining it. Children should be raised in a way where they would pass judgment and learn acceptance, as per Diversity Role Models.
