Families Willing to Pay Higher for Fruit and Vegetables for Better Health

Fruits and vegetables are good for the health. Most families are even willing to pay more to be able to improve their lifestyle by changing their health choices.

The Guardian reports that too seriously improve one's health choices, one must consume 10 fruits or vegetables every day. This, according to scientists can help people live longer. To be able to do so, one must consume around £2.16 in Sainsbury or £1.88 in Lidl amount of fruits of vegetables. In a week, it would be around £15.12 and £13.16 respectively. However, for a family of four, it can reach as high as £60.48 or £52.64 a week.

This figures also explained why there is such a big difference in health between rich and poor families. However, there are also some issues when it comes to eating fruits and vegetables alone. Dr. Jenny Goodman explains that strict vegans would be unable to get the essential D3 that they need in their diet.

Since the UK winter sun is never too high, there is also a deficiency in D2 in the system. Thus, including vitamin D2 and D3 in the diet, through the food that we eat is also essential.

Meanwhile, reports from CNN also reveals that importance of eating 10 portions of fruit and vegetables daily to reduce heart attack, stroke, cancer, and early death. A study conducted at the Imperial College London reveals that consuming 10 portions of fruits and vegetables a day, weighed around 800grams can help in preventing 7.8 million premature deaths across the globe.

The World Health Organization meanwhile suggests eating 5 portions of fruits and vegetables or around 400 grams daily. Campaigns in different countries including UK, Germany, France, Norway and Japan are being launched to be able to achieve this target.

Eating 10 portions of fruits and vegetables a day reduces heart diseases by 24 percent, stroke by 33 percent, cardiovascular diseases by 28 percent, cancer by 13 percent and dying prematurely by 31 percent. This risk is computed versus not eating any fruit and vegetables.
