NBA Trade 2017 Latest News & Update: Brook Lopez Jumping To New Orleans For Multiple Players
The NBA trade deadline is fast approaching and one of the players who has been headlining the grapevine is Brook Lopez of the Brooklyn Nets. Many believe that the Nets are better off trading away their high-priced players so that Kenny Atkinson gets a new hand in rebuilding the team with money to spare.
The Nets have reportedly spoken to the New Orleans Pelicans for a possible deal involving Brook Lopez. Based on the report from Basketball Insiders, the Nets stand to get a lot in return. Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, Tim Frazier and a 2018 protected first-round pick are being offered. Of the assets on the table, the Nets may be interested in future picks.
A look at the NBA Western Conference standings show the Pelicans sporting a 22-34 card, given an outside chance of making it to the magic 8 for the postseason wars. Adding Lopez could make sense though it also involves inheriting a hefty salary worth $22.6 million next season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2018.
On the end of the Nets, the assets they stand to get may be nothing more than a salary dump. Evans is set to become a free agent while Galloway holds a player option after this season. Frazier and the future pick could be the only remnants of the trade as Brooklyn looks to rebuild. They are at the tail-end of the Eastern conference as of this writing with a 9-46 win-loss card, technically out of the playoff race and going through the motions of finishing this disastrous season.
The interest in Lopez could be simply another option to reinforce Anthony Davis. The Pelicans also expressed interest in Jahlil Okafor of the Philadelphia 76ers to take some load off the all-star player. According to USA Today, the deal between the Pelicans and the Sixers would include Alexis Ajinca plus a protected 2018 first-round pick.
