'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Spoilers: Kylo Ren, Rey Mysterious Connection Might Not Be What Everyone Thinks It Is

By Belle Sebastian | Update Date: Feb 14, 2017 09:10 AM EST

It looks like a mystery from "Episode VII" will finally be solved in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi". The official character bios for Kylo Ren and Rey have been updated to tease on the connection between the two, leading to speculations that they might actually be siblings. But is it possible that the two possible Skywalker children are not related at all? Could the connection have more to do with the massacre of Luke Skywalker's Jedi students?

It's hard to miss the crucial scene in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", where Kylo Ren interrogates Rey and tries to reach into her mind for the map to Luke Skywalker's location. There is little doubt that something made Ren lose his focus, allowing Rey to read his mind instead. Could it have been that the Force is stronger in Rey, or that Ren found something in her memories that made him falter? Will everything be revealed in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi"?

Kylo Ren's updated character bio in the official "Star Wars" website confirms that the First Order warlord and the girl from Jakku has "a mysterious connection". In Rey's bio, the connection is described as "mysterious." Fans immediately locked in on the new details, wondering if the site has confirmed that Ren and Rey are brother and sister.

But is it possible that people are simply reading too much into the information? Will "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" reveal that the true connection has nothing to do with blood relations? There are speculations that Kylo Ren may have not embraced the Dark Side as thoroughly as it appears in "The Force Awakens". Some believe that Ren is aware of Rey's true identity and may have been the one who sent her to Jakku in the first place.

The capture of Rey may have been less about finding the map to Luke Skywalker and more on making sure she is safe. There is a possibility that Ren understands Rey's potential and wans to make sure she will fulfill her destiny in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi". The film is scheduled for release on December 15.
