NFL Trade 2017 Latest News & Updates: Denver Broncos Will Use Tony Romo As Short-Time Fix

With the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons busy preparing for Super Bowl LI, other teams such as the Denver Broncos are likely mapping out their plans for the next NFL season. The Super Bowl 50 champions had a rocky 2016-17 NFL season and one glaring issue was the quarterback position.

The Broncos found themselves starting over when Peyton Manning retired after Super Bowl 50. Manning could have played one more season but opted to hang it all up. Denver went with Trevor Siemian and rookie Paxton Lynch, both obviously wet behind the ear. The lack of experience was obvious which is where Tony Romo comes in.

Everyone knows how Tony Romo lost his starting job to rookie Dak Prescott for the 2016-17 NFL season. He partly had a hand in that after suffering a shoulder injury during the pre-season. At that time, the Dallas Cowboys had no idea what Prescott was capable of. And as it turned out, he was ripe to play leaving the 36-year-old veteran out in the cold.

With the rise of Prescott, Tony Romo trade talks plagued the grapevine. The Denver Broncos are a prime destination, knowing how to utilize veteran quarterbacks – Peyton Manning of which is an example. Romo and Broncos owner John Elway were recently spotted at the victory party of majority leader Kevin McCarthy, the NY Post reported. The sighting was a no-brainer, suggesting that both probably discussed a potential deal.

Nothing has been made official but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones may be talking with Elway soon. With no place on the Cowboys roster, the logical move is for Romo to be traded along with his huge contract, ESPN reported. The money angle is another interesting issue, meaning the Broncos will allocate $24.7 million, $25.2 million and $23.7 should Romo be signed. Elway could offer a restructured short-term deal instead as Romo comes in temporarily while they develop Siemian, Lynch or other incoming players at the quarterback position.
