Fans have long been wondering if Elena Gilbert will actually return in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, especially since most of the episodes seem to show Damon Salvatore being tormented with memories of his beloved. Now viewers can rest assured that Damon's torture will come to an end. Nina Dobrev has just confirmed that she will be back in the final season.

There is good reason for everyone to worry that Nina Dobrev would miss out on the final season of "The Vampire Diaries". Creator Julie Plec has repeatedly spoken about wanting to bring Elena back in the CW series although it appeared that Dobrev was too busy to commit. Luckily, the update actually comes from the "xXx: Return of Xander Cage" star, who will undoubtedly play a large role in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 finale.

Nina Dobrev made the announcement on Instagram by sharing her own copy of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 script for the sixteenth episode. The star of the upcoming "Flatliners" sequel even added the hashtags #BackOnSet and #TVDForever, much to the delight of thousands of fans. Interestingly, it looks like the season finale of the final season will be titled "I Was Feeling Epic", which sounds like something Elena Gilbert would say to explain her long-awaited return.

The return of Elena Gilbert will undoubtedly mean a lot to Damon Salvatore, who has been tormented by Sybil with memories of his beloved. It would also be great to see Nina Dobrev reunited with her ex Ian Somerhalder amidst speculations that the two are trying to get back together. Nevertheless, Elena and Damon's reunion is expected to be a fitting conclusion for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

Fans will need to wait a little longer to see Nina Dobrev back in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. In the meantime, Damon Salvatore continues to be tortured with memories of Elena Gilbert.
