The last episode of "Sherlock" Season 4 has finally aired, and it looks like Benedict Cumberbatch's series has completely concluded with "The Final Problem". However, some fans believe that there is still a future for their beloved BBC show. Is there any chance that "Sherlock" Season 5 will still happen?

There is little doubt that "The Final Problem" is being set up as the show's last episode, at least for now. "Sherlock" Season 4 Episode 3 hinted on the title character's growth in the past few years, suggesting that the series is set for a happy ending. On the other hand, there are speculations that "Sherlock" Season 5 will still be made and Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as the brilliant detective. But what could possibly happen if the show actually gets renewed after "The Final Problem"?

It is possible that Eurus Holmes will play a larger role in the series if "Sherlock" Season 5 eventually happens. Fans are also hoping that Sherlock's relationship with John Watson will be explored fully when the show returns on BBC. There are still plenty of stories to tell in the future, but perhaps the main problem is, how long will people have to wait for another season now that Benedict Cumberbatch has a busy schedule?

"Sherlock" co-creator Mark Gatiss has already addressed the possibility of "Sherlock" Season 5 being cancelled due to Benedict Cumberbatch's hectic schedule. After all, the "Doctor Strange" actor is now set to appear in more Marvel Cinematic Universe flicks that includes "Avengers: Infinity War". Nevertheless, fans are keeping their fingers crossed in hopes that Cumberbatch will eventually return to work on the BBC series.

BBC has not yet announced whether the fourth season of "Sherlock" would be the show's last season. On the other hand, the network has not commented on a possible "Sherlock" Season 5.
