"Girl Meets World" season 4 was finally proclaimed canceled by Disney Channel after months of speculations. The series has returned after its Christmas hiatus with a nostalgic episode, giving fans behind-the-scenes look at the past three seasons.

"Girl Meets World" season 4 is officially over as confirmed by Forbes last week. Taking to Twitter, the writers of the show confirmed the sad news of the series' cancellation after three seasons. The writers also thanked the fans for their love and loyalty, giving them a parting gift through the show's last three episodes. These by far are the best ones they did and fans should look forward to them. In Friday's episode, it looks pretty clear to fans that the show is saying is virtually saying their goodbye.

"Girl Meets World" season 4 may not air anymore, however; the cast and crew promised fans that the three runs were proof of their best work. It may have been months before Friday's episode was filmed but it looked like that the cast and crew had an idea about the cancellation, Yahoo TV noted. During Friday's episode, the cast alongside their fans looked back to some of the show's major plots, which includes the controversial love triangle of Riley, Lucas, and Maya. The special one-hour episode also revealed some wacky moments, montages and tributes, ending it with dramatic shots of the now empty workspace.

Fans are now trying to figure out what really caused the cancellation of "Girl Meets World" season 4 and Forbes discussed possible points for the dismissal. It may be possible that the spinoff series has been constantly compared to its original series, "Boy Meets World." It was pointed out that nostalgia projects (spinoff and revivals) often garner lackluster following. In fact, the show's audience decreased from their stellar 5.16 million viewers from the series premiere to an average 1.5 million viewers on its third season.

"Girl Meets World" will officially air its final episode on January 20. What do you think is the real reason why "Girl Meets World" season 4 was officially cancelled? Sound off in the comment box below.
