John Cena officially made his return on the Dec. 27 edition of WWE SmackDown and wasted no time telling what he will be aiming for next. After falling short at WWE No Mercy, the Cenation Leader will be vying once again for the WWE heavyweight title.

John Cena returns after a two-month hiatus, though his official opponent had yet to be settled when he made his intentions known. AJ Styles is the reigning WWE SmackDown heavyweight champion but the “Phenomenal One” was set to face Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler later on in the evening, WWE.com reported.

After a hellacious match, Styles pinned Ziggler in the end. Before Styles could savor his win, John Cena came rushing to stare down the champion. Both ended up shaking hands with the stage set at the Royal Rumble 2017, the Wrestling Observer reported. AJ Styles is two-up over John Cena so it will be interesting if the 38-year-old WWE icon can finally snare one from the champion. He will be aiming to equalize the 16 titles currently held by the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair.

Cena could win the title at the Royal Rumble though there is another concern. The upcoming pay-per-view is usually the stage to set up the cards for Wrestlemania (33) with most speculating a showdown between John Cena and the Undertaker. The Undertaker has yet to officially compete in the ring since Wrestlemania 32 though he did re-emerge at the 900th episode of WWE SmackDown. The “Phenom” could re-appear during or after the title-match and target John Cena.

Should the WWE book a John Cena vs. Undertaker match, the WWE heavyweight title many not be needed in the mix. If so, Cena could end up falling to a third loss to Styles and hamper his chances at winning the championship again. If not the Royal Rumble, Cena and the Undertaker could come face-to-face at the SmackDown episode following it. If John Cena does become champion, the title may not be on the line if both do collide at Wrestlemania 33 in April 2017.
