Ellen Degeneres was teary eyed as she received the revered 'Presidential Medal Of Freedom' on Tuesday, Nov. 22. However, she almost missed her chance on receiving the prestigious medal after she forgot to bring identification.

The talk show host took to Twitter and posted a picture of her sitting on a bench outside the White House. She then captioned the image saying she hasn't been let inside the White House yet because she forgot her ID. She said she was not joking towards the end of the caption.

An hour later, Degeneres managed to get in for the ceremony, Fox News reported. She even shared a video of her inside the White House in an epic mannequin challenge that had the participation of other 'Presidential Medal Of Freedom' recipients like Tom Hanks, Michael Jordan, Bruce Springsteen, Diana Ross, Bill and Melinda Gates. In the video, everyone can be seen posing as mannequins.

"In 1997, after coming out herself, Degeneres made TV history when her character on 'Ellen' revealed she was a lesbian. In her work and in her life, she has been a passionate advocate for equality and fairness," the White House said in a statement.

President Barack Obama praised Ellen's effort for striving hard to establish fair rights for the LGBT community. The White House aide cited her decades of activism and contributions to pop culture,Gamenguide reported.

The White House aide said in its introductory statement that Ellen Degeneres has shown us that a single individual can make the world a more fun, more open, more loving place, so long as we just keep swimming, referring to her role as Dory in 'Finding Nemo.'
