Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 was in a lot of trouble this summer, bearing to the fact that the tablet battery was having issues. So far, the issues have been fixed by Microsoft and Surface Pro 3 users can heave a sigh of relief.

The issues started around July. Microsoft was quick to release a software patch, saying it would solve the problems. However, the fix worsened the battery issues. This time around, however, Microsoft is serious about solving the issues.

Microsoft was careless to document the patch on the device's update history website, and they finally came around to do it, three days later. The update history can be found here, and states that there was an update for Surface Pro Embedded Controller Firmware was issued on the 7th of November, 2015 which "corrects an error that may occur on a limited number of Surface Pro 3 devices where the full charge capacity of the battery is misreported to the operating system and device firmware. This update corrects the firmware component that functions as a 'fuel gauge' so that the battery capacity is accurately reported."

There is an entire FAQ section that details the update. The battery draining issues have left the customers unable to use the Surface Pro 3 without continuous power supply. If the tablet is removed from the charge, the battery will be discharged quickly.

This is attributed to the fact that the tablet has an "error condition", which causes the value of the charge capacity to be misreported to Windows and device firmware. This causes the battery draining outcome and the Surface Pro 3 will not give battery life off charge.

However, the ship is far from the shore. Microsoft says that it would take a number of charging and discharging cycles before the battery capacity is correctly reported to Windows and the firmware.

Some devices that didn't have the battery issues will not be contracting the issues, Microsoft says. As such, the update will decide customer confidence in the device and the company.
