Conor McGregor Wants $100 Million Cash To Take On Champion Boxer Floyd Mayweather

"The Notorious" is not afraid to take part in a boxing bout except that he has a condition. On Tuesday (Nov 15), Conor McGregor gave the message to retired boxer Floyd Mayweather at 1 Oak in New York City while continuing with his victory tour after knocking out Eddie Alvarez earlier this month to win the UFC lightweight title and create history.

McGregor responded to Mayweather after the latter floated a rumor earlier this year that he was going to fight the UFC champion. He said he was willing to accept it but only if he got $100 million in cash. The reason: McGregor felt Mayweather wanted to fight under the boxing rules.

"Tell Floyd and Showtime, I'm coming. Tell him to go to them Showtime offices. I want $100 million cash to fight you under boxing rules cause he's afraid of a real fight," McGregor said, according to TMZ sports.

Mayweather, 39, who retired last year with an impeccable 49-0 record, had almost erupted on being compared with McGregor, especially in terms of the career accomplishments.

"I didn't know Conor McGregor was undefeated. I didn't know he had a reign in MMA for 20 years and undefeated and was world champion in five different weight classes," the pound-for-pound boxer told TMZ.

But why is McGregor so eager to take on the king? According to Fox Sports, the 28-year-old Irishman never compared himself to Mayweather but started taking shots at the latter once the rumors surfaced about the two locking horns in a possible duel.

The fight is yet to happen but McGregor, known for his outspoken nature, continued to raise the topic time and again and blasted the boxer at will.

Fox Sports's Damon Martin has an explanation why McGregor is so eager to play with fire. According to him, McGregor is willing to meet Mayweather in his discipline because he knows well that the latter would never agree to fight him under the rules of mixed martial arts.

"Floyd's not ready for this. Much respect to Floyd, he's a solid businessman. What he has been able to do, he's a (expletive) animal at what he's been able to do but as far as real fighting, as far as true, pure unarmed combat - Floyd don't want none of this," McGregor said, as per Martin's report.

Opinions were, however, divided over a possible McGregor-Mayweather fight with people preferring their own sport. Boxer Andre Ward said it would not be a good idea for the UFC champion to take on the boxer in a boxing ring, reported Jefferson Lake of Sky Sports.

Dana White, the president of the UFC, on the other hand, asked Mayweather to show respect for McGregor. "Conor McGregor ... if he touches you, you go to sleep. Floyd puts people to sleep too, with his fighting style, not with his hands," White told TMZ Sports.

"You know how Floyd knocks people out? When they're not looking. Watch the Victor Ortiz fight," he added.
