The well-known Resident Evil series by Capcom is back with another new entry to the family. It had made its first appearance at E3 2016 with the trailer named Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour. The new series is set to release in January 2017.

What Should You Expect?

The fans of this ongoing series were continuously demanding the horror to be back from the 96 version. So the developer has finally irked towards this goal, which was clearly deviated from in the recent versions of the game.

The weapon used in this context is the first person perspective of this game. In the third-person, over the shoulder viewpoint the gamer is free to have a full field of vision, but here even the turnaround is difficult.

The claustrophobic feeling and lack of hind sight vision cater to the requirements. The game, therefore, is not a mere extension of the previous versions. However, it is the next level of the series with a well-connected legacy.

The Set Up and the Gameplay

An ordinary man named Ethan is the protagonist of the game who has set out in search for his lost wife. In his quest, he comes to confront the Bakers family. The family is of cannibals as suspected from the plates served to them containing human remains.

The family members can sustain multiple attacks. Hence even if the enemies are few, they pose a significant threat. The protagonist is armed with guns, explosives and even flamethrowers. The enemy, on the other hand, only gets more pissed off when attacked with bullets.

Consequently, the ultimate win over point is yet to be discovered. The Baker Family seems to reside in a house having a stark resemblance to the sinister family home in the horror movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Added Mechanics

The trailer comes with an impression that the series is back with fear and horror. Though the developers had given serious thought to it, many other elements are also included.

It contains a significant amount of combat, resource management, puzzles solving and other mechanics. The magical herb is used as healing aids, a feature back from 1996 version.

VR

The first person perspective successfully confines the protagonist instilling a significant element of horror. The feeling is successfully enhanced with its full VR support.

Though the VR capability is entirely optional, its use can only increase the horror of the setup. While playing over TV, the player can at least pause and take a breather off to relax.

However, in the case of VR, the user lacks any such option. The best one can do to close the eyes to avoid any anticipated threatening that can raise the adrenaline and further worsen the situation.

The Gist So far

Saying all this, the trailers and the developers have still not revealed a clear picture of the expectations that one can keep with the upcoming game. The intended suspense creates an element of uncertainty that adds to the horror. The experience, therefore, would be surprising since the players would not be forewarned of the impending dangers.
