NBA Trade Rumors: Will Cleveland Cavaliers Swap Kevin Love With Clippers' Blake Griffin?

By Shubham Ghosh | Update Date: Oct 28, 2016 07:05 AM EDT

For a talent in any discipline, finding the right environment is very important to excel and the NBA is no exception. For Cleveland Cavaliers' Kevin Love and Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin, it is rumored that they have not fitted into their current teams the way they should have, said this Headlines and Global News report. So could the duo be traded between these two teams?

Equally tall and aged around the same (28-year-old Love is senior by six months), Love and Griffin have a lot of similarities when it comes to their game as well. Drafted within a year, both are power forwards, All-Star caliber players and at their prime. And moreover, there is no dearth of trade rumor talks in the NBA circuit about them.

It is unfortunate if the rumors that Love is not fitting into the Cavs well are true. For the man has done well, including in the maiden game of the 2016-17 season against the New York Knicks on October 25 which the Cavs won 117-88. Love tallied 23 points in that game leading his team in rebounding, as per a CBS Sports reported. But yet he is being questioned because the comparison of his performance with Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers comes in the way. Critics feel the man is nowhere near his glory days in Minnesota and the reason is that he is a misfit in the Cavs.

As against Love who averaged 16 points in 77 regular season games with the Cavs, Griffin has averaged 21.5 points in his six seasons with the Clippers. And though the team could make the NBA playoffs in the last five seasons, they never made the finals or even the Conference finals. Doubts have gradually emerged whether Griffin's pairing with Chris Paul has a future.

Griffin's contract is set to expire after this season and if he decides to go to some other team, the Clippers will certainly not gain anything.

So, for both Cavs and Clippers, the best option could be to trade Griffin with Love. Given the two players' similar stature, no side will lose much. May be Love will find a great match in Paul and DeAndre Jordan in the Clippers and contribute as a good power forward.

Similarly, Cleveland Cavaliers require a decent low-post player and Griffin might be the perfect man for that.
