Was Liverpool Striker Daniel Sturridge Reluctant To Play Tottenham Before Scoring The Winning Brace?

That's how big players act. They don't care for the uncertainty when they take up the job in hand. And Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is no exception. The 27-year-old striker, who scored a winning brace against Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday (October 25), might have been reluctant to play the game, said Jamie Redknapp, England's former soccer player and currently an expert commentator, reported the International Business Times.

According to Redknapp, who played both for Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, asked whether Sturridge would have been eager to play for the weak Reds side. However, he also added that Sturridge's show in his team's 2-1 victory at Anfield will only help his own selection prospects in the future. The former player also hoped that talented player scores more often as he scored his first goal in six games and has struggled to find a regular place in manager Jurgen Klopp's starting-line in recent times.

Klopp gave Sturridge a start in this match and the man proved how good he is. He struck on both halves before Tottenham pulled one back. This win took Liverpool to the quarter-finals. They will take on Leeds United next in November end.

"Play well, show a great attitude and score goals. He's a special talent. We're talking about one of the best forwards in the world on his day. That's how good he is," Redknapp said on Sky Sports. The pundit was clearly impressed with both the goals that Sturridge scored.

Sturridge, who scored England's opening goal in the last World Cup held in Brazil, was also grateful for being given the opportunity to start.

"It's a nice feeling (to be back in the team), I'm happy with tonight," he told Sky Sports.

Just a week ago, Sturridge faced criticism for his ordinary show against Jose Mourinho's Manchester United. Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy even said on BBC Five Live that Sturridge was unlikely to appear for Liverpool the next season for according to Murphy, he is a misfit in Klopp's scheme of things.

But having said that, opinions have changed about Sturridge a week later and he has also done his self-belief a world of good.
