NBA Trade Rumors: Brooklyn Nets To Trade Brook Lopez Before End Of 2016?

Brook Lopez, the 28-year-old All-Star center is likely to be traded by the Brooklyn Nets before the end of this year, reports have said.

Lopez still has two years of his contract with the Nets (he was signed in July 2015 for $63 million) but the management feels trading the man while he still has a high value will be a wise step to take, something which ESPN NBA insider Tom Haberstroh also feels. Though considered one of the best in the league by many, the seven-foot-tall player has been plagued by injuries in recent times. Yet, he managed to appear in over 70 games in the last few seasons. The man is set to earn over $43.8 million over the next two seasons.

There are other opinions, however, that believe the Nets would do better to trade Croatian Bojan Bogdanovic who is in his final contract year with the Nets.

Nets' General Manager Sean Marks is about to bring in youngsters in place of Lopez as part of the team's rebuilding process, a New York Post report said on Monday. "With the Nets hunting for assets and able to bring back a windfall for Lopez, they could move him at the trade deadline to a desperate contender that feels it is just a star big man away," said the NY Post.

But what could be the possible destination for Lopez?

According to the NY Post, that could be either of Boston Celtics, Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers or Milwaukee Bucks. But whoever chooses the big man, continuous service for at least two seasons would be expected of him. Marks could get call from these four teams between December 15 and next February about Lopez, said an ESPN.com report.

From the Nets' perspective, the outfit under Kenny Atkinson, who took over as their head coach in April this year and Marks, who also took over as the GM in February, is expected to struggle this season for things are yet to settle under the new officials. The team will be looking more to rebuild, even if that includes trading the current best players.

The Nets were set to kick off their 2016-17 season against the Celtics in an away game on Wednesday.
