Shocking Rise In Self-Harm Among Young, Report Says

By Mohender | Update Date: Oct 26, 2016 11:20 AM EDT

These trends are more pronounced among girls due to social pressure. Self-harm has risen among children and young since past ten years.

There is an upward trend amongst girls below 18 years of age being admitted to hospitals after poisoning, cutting or hanging themselves. Though there are some major issues among boys as well.

This psychological depression is because of the social pressure that these young minds have to face in their day to day lives.

The clinical experience shows that their levels of distress are rising. Though all those harming themselves do not have mental health problems.

There can be various reasons for mental distress among young people which may include sexual abuse, pressure to succeed at school, effects of social media which are damaging, family breakup, growing inequality and so forth.

About 88% of children harm themselves through poisoning, and this figure is rising day by day.

It is believed that there is a decrease in social workers, parental classes, and mental health services in schools and educational psychologists who are handled by budget-driven local councils.

There is a concern for young children as those self-harming children who turn to the internet for help may receive unhelpful information or may get an encouragement to what they were doing previously. A survey report in the UK says that only 16% children seek their parents help while 76% search the web, many talks to their friends and few of them might talk to their teachers.

It is the duty of the government to create funds for such children who are going through mental distress. Various awareness campaigns can be held while entering the school premises to make such children aware of the damage they are causing to themselves while Self-harming themselves.  Certain awareness campaigns should be targeted at the parents so that they are able to understand the problem of their child.
