‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Air Date, News & Updates: Tom Hiddleston is Cumberbatch’s Latest Sidekick? Season 4 Last of the Series?

Update Date: Oct 11, 2016 01:40 PM EDT

Sherlock Season 4 is coming very soon, and as it is the titles of the first two episodes that BBC has kindly dished out are more than enough to keep the fire burning. The Inquisitr reported that episode 1 is entitled The Six Thatchers while episode 2 is called The Lying Detective. The former is directed by Rachel Talalay, written by Mark Gatiss, while the latter is written by Steven Moffat and directed by Nick Hurran.

Will the show be as dark as fans expect it to be? If Sherlock's worried looks could be taken as a hint, then viewers can expect amazing plot coming their way. Moffat said that in the first two episodes of the upcoming season, there will be an hour of plot and half an hour of drama. Episode 3 will even have more plot than the other two. Obviously, you can expect a LOT of plot.

Taylor Swift's Ex as New Sidekick?

Yup, this rumor won't seem to die down ever since Mark Gatiss and Amanda Abbington of Sherlock were seen with Tom Hiddleston in photo ops during this year's Comic Con, this according to Digitalspy. Mycroft Holmes (Mark Gatiss) already hinted in the past that there might be a possible third sibling in the future. During the third season finale, Gatiss was quoted as saying, "I'm not given to outbursts of brotherly compassion. You know what happened to the other one." If these speculations are any way true, Hiddleston's inclusion on the show will definitely help in the rating game.

Sherlock Comes to a Close in Season 4?

Meanwhile Independent reported that Benedict Cumberbatch has hinted that season 4 will be Sherlock's last. The Oscar nominee is already done filming his latest adventures as the famous detective. According to Independent, fans are worried about what he truly meant during a British GQ interview November issue that it felt like "the end of an era". He told the magazine that even if he would 'never say never' to doing the lead role, he felt that the show already "felt complete".

Fans are desperately hoping this will not be the hit show's final season, especially new and interesting characters such as Hiddleston are coming in to take the already sizzling series to its boiling point! Viewers will just have to wait and see. There's no definite date yet, only that it will return on air sometime in January 2017.
