'Power Rangers' Plot, Cast & Release Date: Lionsgate Confirms 7-Film Series?

Update Date: May 28, 2016 05:57 AM EDT

Lionsgate is turning its eye to more Power Rangers movie with CEO Jon Feltheimer proclaiming that the studio may make as many as seven more "Power Rangers" movies.

Fans have not been into an initial trial run yet and already Lionsgate is branching out as it is being fueled by early by artwork, set photos and central pics - which has all been received by mixed responses. Along with the current trend set by Disney to have its Marvel franchise going on forever and the Transformers planning to extend for a decade more.

"We are really, really excited about the 'Power Rangers' movie. We could see doing five or six or seven,"Feltheimer mentioned to Variety during a conference call Thursday with analysts.

The CEO cited the positive reaction to the costume reveal as evidence of audience interest. The suits consist of translucent armor that crystallizes around the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' bodies.

Initial reactions to Rita Repulsa's revised look haven't been that positive, as reported by Gizmondo.

Elizabeth Banks is hardly recognizable underneath a dress that shares small similarity to a character's formerly onscreen appearances. Despite initial impressions, it's unfit to sign what a film will be like until it's released. We won't know until afterwards either or not we'll even get one sequel, never mind several.

Power Rangers stars Becky G as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger. The first photo featured the whole cast in their casual teenage garb, preparing to shoot a JC Penney magazine cover.

Project Almanac helmer Dean Israelite is directing Powers Rangers with a script from X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz, Need for Speed and Real Steel scribe John Gatins, and The Last Witch Hunter and Gods of Egypt writers Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless.
