“Fast & Furious 8” or “Fast 8” has already started filming as it gears up for an April 17, 2017 release. Most of the cast people saw in “Fast 7” will still be around, led no less by Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Charlize Theron is the most prominent of them all who will play the role of “Cipher”. She is expected to play villain in the said film though critics believe that she may eventually align with Dominic Toretto and the gang.

Fast-forwarding a bit, word about spin-offs is nothing new despite the fact most have been rumors. But now one of the characters who may be getting a spinoff could be gaining ground.

Best FF8 star to kick off spinoffs

“Luke Hobbs” is the character portrayed by Johnson in the last two Fast and Furious installments and someone who was created through the joint efforts of Johnson, writer Chris Morgan and producer Hiram Garcia. And seeing how well-received “Hobbs” is, the three are looking ahead and a “spinoff” could be in the works.

"I think there's always been conversations for that. The scheduling of it all is a challenge but there are always talks about a potential spinoff movie and what we can do with it. DJ and I were just talking about that the other day - our visions for it. There's a real goal for that and we can have enough fun with that where we've earned that now with the audience. He's a beloved enough character that they'd love to see what a ride with him would be like in his world," says Hiram in an interview with Comicbook.com.

"The Rock" has a proven track record

Adding more spice to the spinoff is the fact that Johnson has proven himself in the big screen. He has been in flicks that include “The Mummy Returns” and “San Andreas”. Line up are movie reboots as well such as the upcoming “Baywatch” movie.

Cutting to the chase, a spinoff shows plenty of promise. Risks are low though all that would depend on how Garcia and company are able to come up with a compelling storyline outside the actual Fast and Furious franchise.
