The Flash Season 2 Spoilers & Theories: Barry Allen Back In Time?

By Brian McNeill | Update Date: May 10, 2016 06:25 AM EDT

The last time we tackled on the possible fate of Barry Allen aka “the Flash” (Grant Gustin), the best theory to probably explain it all was he may have been sucked into the “Speed Force”.

As a refresher for the ones who may have missed episode 20 titled “Rupture”, the S.T.A.R. lab team tried to improvise by using holograms as a way to show Central City that the “Flash” was alive and well. The tactic worked in the early goings until “Zoom” (Teddy Sears) was able to figure out the trick and such resulted in the deaths of policemen.

After initially being apprehensive, Allen eventually agrees to recreate the particle accelerator explosion to get his speed back. The key elements present when Barry first got his speed were used but the whole process ended up seeing Allen disintegrate as he dissolved in particles.

From there, the guessing game and theories come into play. Some are tied up with the “Speed Force” angle and the trailer for episode 21 titled “The Runaway Dinosaur” shows Barry alive and well and with his mother (Michelle Harrison).

It seems to portray that Barry will find himself lost in a timeline where his mother was still alive and most likely still without his powers. Somehow that calls to mind the animated version of the Flash, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.

In the animated version, Allen wakes up to a whole new setting but without his powers. Though he is initially stunned by being with his mother, he eventually figures that there is something off. This is where it gets interesting since CW will likely offer something close to the original animated script.

Going through that quickly, these were parts where the “Flash” would eventually be caught in the middle of a war involving “Aquaman” and “Wonder Woman” where altered versions of Batman and Superman due to the altered timeline.

The question is how will Barry get his powers back? There will be some sort of twist that will likely be tied up to it, including possibly being burned just like what happened in “Flashpoint”.

As far as the series is concerned, it may not be the case unless Allen already has the speed at some point due to perhaps some delayed reaction from the procedure done on episode 20. Once that happens, Zoom could play a role as well, as he is likely to find out that the “Flash” lives (again).

With Zoom having the ability to travel through time, there is a chance that both could meet at the undefined timeline and may end up fighting yet again though there could be another element inserted.

In the animated version, Zoom is killed with a gunshot wound by the Batman of that time frame. In the case of the series, could there be someone pulling the trigger and kill Zoom? If so who?

While that could be anyone ranging from Barry’s mother (Harrison), Iris West (Candice Patton) or even Cisco (Carlos Valdes), there is a chance that Allen may return back in time but with things a bit altered.
