Randy Orton's WWE Return Delayed: Schedule, Matches & Reactions Here

By Brian McNeill | Update Date: May 07, 2016 06:48 AM EDT

Randy Orton has long been out of WWE action but many believed he would be among the stars likely to return to the fold soon. With stars like John Cena and Seth Rollins close to 100% returns, Orton was expected to join the return party as well.

There was initial belief that Orton would return in April though such never happened. But previous revelation by WWE legend Ric Flair may be able to shed some light on why “The Viper’s” return may have been pushed back.

“Randy’s shoulder surgery was a lot more serious than people understand. He even had it done by a different surgeon this time because he wanted to make sure that… If it pops out just pounding the mat…just imagine what would happen if he took a German from Brock (Lesnar).”

Orton has had his share of shoulder injuries and everyone is aware that recurring injuries only makes it worse. While Orton is aching to return to action, the appropriate time to do so is still up in the air.

One reason singled out for the longer wait allegedly has something to do with his rehabilitation. So rather than an actual June return to the ring, that month will be the only time when Orton would be able to train at the WWE Performance Center.

Orton has been out since November and was around during the WWE Hall of Fame ceremonies held in Dallas. He was forced to sit out Wrestlemania 32 with the injury and could have been an added boost as the WWE continues to delve with the vast array of injured stars.

The last storyline where Orton was involved was that one where he almost teamed up with WWE heavyweight champion Roman Regins and Dean Ambrose against the Wyatt Family. From there it seemed that Orton was the new target of Bray Wyatt and company until the injury bug bit.

Right now, it is unlikely that the WWE will continue with that storyline. But if he had a choice, Orton did reveal who he would love to face next once he does return last month.

According to Orton, two names he would love to face next once he is back are Sami Zayn or Finn Balor. Of the two, Zayn could be a good choice considering he has been bumped up to the main roster already.

Balor on the other hand has long been rumored to make the jump as well, especially after losing the NXT title to Samoa Joe. Unfortunately Balor has shot down those rumors and maintains that he will remain in the NXT brand for now.
