An analysis of existing studies suggests that vitamin D could have the potential to prevent dental caries or tooth decay. The researchers, before concluding the study, analyzed 24 controlled clinical trials, between the years 1920 and 1980, in which approximately 3,000 children from several countries had participated. After the analysis, the researchers have concluded that vitamin D could help prevent tooth decay in 50 percent cases. "My main goal was to summarize the clinical trial database so that we could take a fresh look at this vitamin D question," said Dr. Philippe Hujoel of the University of Washington, who conducted the review.
