The First Marijuana Ad Will Air via Comcast

With several states throughout America legalizing marijuana, the still federally illegal substance has gotten more media attention. With more access to the substance, the has created the very first commercial to air on a "Major Network" that promotes the use of medicinal marijuana.

"Securing the airtime for our commercial on a major network was extremely difficult and at the same time, extremely satisfying," stated Jason Draizin, Founder and CEO of, Inc. in the press release. "We recognize that the sale and use of marijuana is still considered very controversial and we are pleased that Comcast understands that there are legitimate businesses providing legitimate and legal services to people who have legitimate needs."

In the 60-second advertisement, a fake drug dealer walks around the streets carrying pieces of raw fish asking people if they want to buy sushi or sashimi from him. The man proceeds to open his coat where he is hiding all the fish. In this black trench coat, he also has black-market Rolexes. The commercial ends with the narrator stating: "You wouldn't buy your sushi from this guy. So why would you buy your marijuana from him?"

The commercial will air in New Jersey on stations that include A&E, AMC, FOX, CNBC, CNN, COMEDY CENTRAL BRAVO, DISCOVERY, ESPN, FX, FOOD NETWORK, HGTV, HISTORY, as well as other stations via Comcast. Currently, medicinal marijuana has been legalized in 20 states and Washington D.C. is a website designed for patients to find doctors who can write medical marijuana prescriptions. These prescriptions then allow the patients to go to a safe and controlled dispensary for their cannabis.

"We felt the viewing public would agree that in the states providing safe access, continuing to obtain medicine illegally is as absurd as purchasing raw fish from a drug dealer," Draizin said reported by TIME.

Mason Tvert, the communications director for the Marijuana Policy Project, added, "Marijuana has been demonized by our government for decades, so many people still have a knee-jerk negative reaction to anything that even mentions the substance. The past decade, we have been rejected by countless TV networks and billboard companies."
