A women who sued a hospital after she lost both her legs after a laparoscopic procedure went wrong has been awarded $62 million by a New York City jury.

Stacey Galette, 30, of Brooklyn and a mother of one had gone to a Long Island hospital in October. After the botched gynecological operation she had to loose both legs and also became partially deaf.

“When I woke up, I was in ICU and I asked my family what I was doing here,” she said, according to Daily Mail.

“They told me about my foot [which] got amputated.”

Galette was in coma for three weeks at Winthrop University Hospital.

The total amount which she will receive from the hospital is $58 million for pain and suffering and an extra $4 million for special damages.

“I’m just happy justice was served,” she told The New York Daily News. “I’m not able to walk.”

“The jury did the right thing by rendering a verdict that will take care of this young lady for the rest of her life,” said Galette’s other lawyer, Ira Newman.

“If she could turn the clock back, she would do it in a heartbeat.”

The hospital authorities said they diagnosed the complications quickly and treated it as best they could. Unfortunately her condition deteriorated quickly.
