As the largest organ of the body, your skin is bound to bruise, graze and itch relative to what you expose it to. It also naturally reacts in different ways depending on individual allergies.

However, with skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema (the latter of which will be at the heart of this article), the best you can hope for is to minimize the issue, as both are currently impossible to eradicate entirely.

With that being said, here are four techniques to reduce the appearance and discomfort of eczema.

1. Choose Natural Over Manmade Fabrics

The most common parts of the body that are most susceptible to eczema flare-ups are areas that tend to be drier, such as the knees, elbows, neck, scalp, and lower legs.

If you suffer a lot from eczema, try to invest in items of clothing that are human-made, such as polyester-based items and nylon, and instead choose eco-friendlier and soft materials like:

  • Silk

  • Bamboo

  • 100% Cotton

  • Tencel (Wood Pulp)

Speak to your doctor and arrange for prescription skin creams for short-term or long-term use through a reputable online pharmaceutical service, such as Chemist Click Online Pharmacy

2. Protect Your Skin When You Sleep

For people with eczema in sensitive areas of their body, such as around their pelvic area and on their face and scalp, a simple and affordable solution to stop the rashes getting worse in bed is to wear pure cotton gloves. This way, if you do tend to scratch your face in your sleep, you won't cause damage. Wearing fingerless gloves when outside for any prolonged amount of time in winter will also help to soothe raw rashes and patches of skin.

Additionally, as eczema is often more prominent in appearance in the winter months in the cold air (and, unfortunately, considerably itchier), take a shower before you go to bed before slathering your skin in moisturizer, locking in moisture while you sleep.

3. Invest in New Toiletries

Even if you have lived your entire life thus far without any allergies, you could still experience irritation when using certain products on your skin. It may well be worth changing up your daily moisturizer, shampoo and conditioner.

As well as never choosing any product which has been tested on animals, look into the information surrounding a particular skin cream or hair product, and check that it is specially formulated for dry skin. Becoming aware of your skin type is also a good way of reducing the risk of making your eczema significantly worse with certain toiletries brands. Furthermore, never be swept along by the hype; just because it is expensive does not mean it will work for your skin.

4. Work on Reducing Your Stress Levels

As previously mentioned, there is, at the point of writing, no definitive cure for eczema that entirely removes the skin condition. However, one certain connection between severe eczema and moderate eczema is an individual's stress level.

From now on, try to stop yourself when you can feel a bout of anger or frustration, to engage in simple deep-breathing techniques, and where possible, remove yourself from a potentially traumatic situation.
