What is Cosmetic Rhinoplasty?

Cosmetic rhinoplasty is also known as a "nose job." It involves changing various parameters of the nose to make it more appealing. The nose job consists of adjusting the nose's size, altering the bridge or tip of the nose, changing the angle, etc. It is the most common cosmetic surgical procedure.

Expenses Required:

The American Society of the Plastic Surgeons has recently concluded the average cost of a nose job is around 5,483 US dollars. The prices vary depending upon the expertise of the surgeon, the locality, and other factors.

Benefits of a Cosmetic Rhinoplasty:

The ultimate advantage of getting a nose job is to be satisfied with how it fits your face. People get nose jobs for various reasons, including

  • Getting rid of the bumps

  • Correcting obstructed airway

  • Restoring the shape after a severe injury

  • Making it more visually appealing

The primary goal of a rhinoplasty, especially the cosmetic one, is to balance the three quadrants of the nose and then balance the whole nose with the face. If the goal is achieved, the surgery is a success and totally worth the costs!

Preparations for the Procedure:

Before the surgery takes place, make sure that you ask your doctor all the things you are confused about. The plastic surgeon will take pictures of your nose and show you the changes made through modeling software. Before surgery, medical history is taken, and blood exams are done to ensure everything is in place. The surgeon might prescribe you some vitamins and minerals before the scheduled date to make your healing fast after the operation.

During The Surgery:

The rhinoplasty can be done by two surgical procedures:

  • Open surgery

  • Closed surgery

Open surgery provides greater exposure to all the bone and cartilage elements of the nose, which provides a very meticulous control over all the sculptural modifications to the surgeon as opposed to closed surgery. The disadvantage of an open procedure is a tiny scar left at the columella of the nose. According to the surgeon's orders, rhinoplasty can be done under local or general anesthesia. The procedure takes a few hours.

Side Effects:

The possible side effects of getting a nose surgery done include:

  • A swollen nose that takes some time to go back to normal.

  • Inflammation.

  • Trouble breathing (not always)

  • Scarring

  • Numbness in areas of the nose

The risks of general anesthesia should also be considered beforehand.

The Aftercare:

Post operation care is essential, and some lifestyle changes must be made. You should try sleeping on your back because turning your head will put pressure on the nose, which might swell more. Avoid aspirin, alcohol, smoking, or spicy food. Make sure that you are keeping yourself hydrated. Antibiotics are prescribed after surgery to keep infections at bay. You should take at least a week off from work and do total bed rest. Clinical supply services in many areas are improving, so there should be no problem getting your antibiotics or painkillers. The bruising will subside in time, initial swelling will also go down, and you will be able to go back to work in a few weeks. It will take almost a year for the nose to reveal its proper shape.

Conclusion:

Based on this short guide about things to expect while undergoing a nose job, we hope that you will decide for yourself what will suit you the best!
