What with the coronavirus pandemic and the decrease in mental health services as a result, you may have heard the words 'corporate wellness programme' kicking about. If so, you're probably wondering what exactly one is and why people are implementing them into their businesses. Well, this article is going to explain what a corporate wellness programme is and is going to give some reasons why they're beneficial and why you should be considering implementing one yourself.

What is a corporate wellness programme?

Corporate wellness programmes are designed to encourage healthier habits within the workplace because when employees are healthier at work, they are also happier and more productive. Essentially, it is a set of benefits implemented by the company to improve and maintain the wellbeing of its employees.

A lot of companies promote their corporate wellness programmes in order to attract more employees and to improve the job satisfaction of those they have already hired. In short, healthy employees facilitate a better working environment for everyone and prevent health care costs for employers.

Some of the features included in corporate wellness programmes could be free or reduced gym memberships, educational opportunities, more healthy food available at work, wellness and counselling opportunities as well as yoga and meditation classes, to name a few. YuLife for example offers long term financial protection and immediate access to mental health support, a virtual GP and other medical support services.

Why should you implement a corporate wellness programme in your business?

Promotes a healthier work environment

Encouraging employees to have a healthier lifestyle and promoting that within the workplace benefits the overall business because it leads to employees taking less sick days from work and coming into work when they are not well enough - both physically and mentally. Employers benefit from reduced compensation and disability related costs, too.

Increases overall job satisfaction

One of the main reasons companies implement corporate wellness programmes into their businesses in the first place is to promote a positive sense of morale. When employees feel that they're important and cared about by their employers they're more likely to feel motivated and to go the extra mile when needed. As well as this, employers benefit from higher retention rates.

Attracts new employees

Now more than ever employees consider what benefits a company can offer instead of just looking at the salary. Research shows that when employees are asked about what benefits are important to them, many selected wellness programmes as the most important. So, if you're a business who's looking to attract new employees who are likely to stay, make sure you think about incorporating a corporate wellness programme into your business.

By having a corporate wellness programme, you're reflecting to the public that your company values their employees and views them as people rather than working machines. In turn, employees are a lot more likely to support and apply for a company who they believe will take care of them and treat them with the dignity and respect that they deserve.

Now you know what a corporate wellness programme is, and the benefits of using one in your business, all that is left to do is to start researching to find the best plan for you.
