Chocolate is well-loved by a lot of people for several reasons. One of the major ones is because it makes them feel good. Now, snorting chocolate is officially happening and get to know the pros of cons of getting your chocolate high in this manner.

According to Forbes, for $24.99 you can get a 10-serving tin of Coco Loko, a cacao-based powder with gingko biloba, taurine and guarana (usually seen in energy drinks) that you can snort. Yes, chocolate for your nose.

Are There Benefits Of Snorting Chocolate?

So why would you want to snort it when you can eat it through your mouth like what everyone is used to? According to Nick Anderson, the 29-year old founder of Legal Lean, the company that makes Coco Loko, he heard about a "chocolate-snorting trend" in Europe, tried it, and in the end worked to start his company's own blend.

Per Anderson, snorting chocolate can provide an "almost like an energy-drink feeling, like you're euphoric but also motivated to get things done." for 30 minutes to an hour. The company's website also claims the following benefits:

  • Endorphin rush - a feeling of "runner's high:" euphoria and exhilaration
  • Serotonin rush -  music sounds better and that feeling of overall happiness
  • Euphoric energy - raw cacao gives a consistent rush of euphoric energy and motivation perfect for party goers without the side effect of crashing
  • Calm focus - a sense of calm focus and reduces the chatter and worry in the brain

Risks Of Snorting Chocolate

Of course it comes with risks. "The FDA is not prepared to issue a determination regarding whether and how this product is subject to FDA jurisdiction at this time," said spokesman Peter Cassell. "In reaching that decision, FDA will need to evaluate the product labeling, marketing information, and/or any other information pertaining to the product's intended use." Cassell added via USA Today

Also, the nose is a passageway to breathe and the inside it is a self-regulated environment which includes a mucous membrane lining, secretions, and various types of bacteria. Making anything unusual pass through it could disturb the natural defenses and bacteria and could lead to infection or injury.
