Tips to Avoid Flu This Season

With the major outbreak of flu, here are some tips that could easily ensure that an individual does not fall prey to this troublesome influenza disease. These tips are not exhaustive, however, when followed, reduce the risk of contracting flu.

Hand-wash: Regular hand-wash with a germ killing soap is a must. This is because influenza spreads mostly through contact, so washing hands at a regular interval while in a public place is mandatory.

Sanitizer: While washing hands regularly might be a little difficult at all given times, an alcohol-based sanitizer is the best alternative in this case. It is easy to carry and also does not take time to search for a sink to wash one's hands.

Handkerchief/Tissue: During this flu season, it is a good practice to avoid touching the face directly. The best way to do this is to keep a box of tissue, wet wipes or a handkerchief handy. If it is absolutely necessary to touch the face, then washing or sanitizing the hand prior to doing so is a must.

Green Leafy Vegetables: Green leafy vegetables are an essential source of vitamins that boost the immune system. So, including lots of spinach, broccoli and parsley in the diet is a must.

Reduce Smoking and Drinking: Both smoking and drinking alcohol weakens the immune system, so during the flu season, it is a good practice to curb both.

Rest: Adequate amount of sleep is necessary to rejuvenate the body and also make sure that both body and mind stays alert. A tired body is more prone to virus attacks than a well-rested healthy body.

Regular Exercise: Working out regularly ensures a healthy body. This, in turn, ensures a good immune system which can withstand the attack of influenza virus.

While these tips will not guarantee a complete protection against the flu this season, they will definitely help in reducing the risk of contamination and also pave the way to a healthy body.
