'Overwatch' News & Update: Valentine's Event May Not Happen, Uncovered Files Indicate Otherwise

In-game events that coincide with holidays have always been a hit among gamers who are eager for their hands on themed items and limited activities. This Valentine's Day, "Overwatch" gamers may get a taste of some Valentine-themed items and activities, as uncovered files indicate. If not, these files indicate that two characters have indeed fallen in love in Blizzard's "Overwatch".

According to Polygon, the recent update of the public test realm of "Overwatch" contains some voice files that reveal how two characters are seemingly affectionate with each other. These "Overwatch" characters are cyborg ninja Genji and Mercy. The small story arc is about Genji gifting Mercy with some chocolates. If this is any indication, it's that a Valentine's event may or may not happen in "Overwatch" next month.

As per GameSpot, however, "Overwatch" director Jeff Kaplan did discuss the possibility of a Valentine's Event for the game, but did not confirm it. He admitted that at the time, they had no plans of pursuing a Valentine's Event for "Overwatch." While a Valentine's Event may be unlikely, Blizzard may still opt to roll out small Valentine-themed items in-game.

"Overwatch" fans need not be disappointed if the Valentine's Event does not come to fruition, however, as Blizzard has promised more events and content coming your way this year. This includes that new "Oasis" map that was released this month for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

"Overwatch" arrived in both Sony and Microsoft platforms in May last year, and was named "Game of the Year" by several award-giving bodies. The multiplayer first-person shooter is directed by Jeffrey Kaplan, Chris Metzen, and Aaron Keller, and has gone on to receive positive reviews from critics and gamers alike.
