Big things are happening in the fourth season of "Sherlock". Fans are still reeling over Mary Watson's death in "The Six Thatchers" but now it looks like "The Lying Detective" could feature another major shocker. Will Sherrinford Holmes, brother to Sherlock and Mycroft, finally be introduced in "Sherlock" Season 4 Episode 2?

Sherrinford Holmes has long been a mystery to "Sherlock" fans, although his existence was already mentioned in last season's episode "His Last Vow". Nevertheless, there are speculations that the third Holmes brother will finally be revealed in "Sherlock" Season 4 Episode 2 in preparation for the third (and possibly last) episode "The Final Problem".

The cast and crew of "Sherlock" Season 4 Episode 2 have teased on Sherrinford Holmes' future appearance. The show's writers Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat have mentioned the name at the San Diego Comic Con when describing the fourth season's third episode. However, some fans believe that Sherrinford's debut will be in "Sherlock" Season 4 Episode 2 as a last minute shocker in "The Lying Detective".

There is little doubt that Sherrinford Holmes will not be the major focus in "The Lying Detective". The synopsis for "Sherlock" Season 4 Episode 2 reveals that the episode will shine the spotlight on Toby Jones' Culverton Smith, describing the villain as "the most chilling enemy of [Sherlock's] long career." It certainly sounds like the detective will need all the help he can get from his brothers Mycroft and Sherrinford to take on this particular nemesis.

Will Sherrinford Holmes finally get introduced in "Sherlock" Season 4 Episode 2? Will Sherlock manage to defeat Culverton Smith with the help of his two brothers and the grieving John Watson? "The Lying Detective" will air on BBC One on January 8. Don't forget to let us know what you think in the comments below.
