The Macy's 90th Thanksgiving Day Parade was a total success. One big factor is the heightened security efforts of the NYPD and the local government as per MailOnline. Because of this, people young and old together with their families were able to enjoy the inflatable cartoon characters, the marching bands, Broadway performances among others. Here are some of the highlights of this year's highly anticipated event courtesy of billboard.

NBC's TV Musical Hairspray Live!

NBC certainly didn't pass this opportunity to promote their upcoming TV musical, Hairspray Live! Fans were delighted to see the cast perform. There was You Can't Stop the Beat which had Ariana Grande (Penny Pingleton), Jennifer Hudson (Motormouth Maybelle), Kristin Chenoweth (Velma Von Tussle), Derek Hough (Corny Collins), Harvey Fierstein (Edna Turnblad) and newbie Maddie Baillio as lead character Tracy Turnblad. Their precision is simply amazing and it's impossible not to get pumped up with excitement!

De La Soul

Not many people expected to see some hip-hop performance but it was a welcome surprise when De La Soul did their number. They did their D.A.I.S.Y. Age classic Me, Myself & I at the parade with a flourish!

Miss Piggy Saves Tony Bennett

The 90-year old crooner sang with the Muppets' First Lady with their rendition of Santa Claus Is Coming to Town for the Hallmark Channel float. Bennett lost his balance after the song but fortunately, Miss Piggy caught him. Hard to believe but true.

Charlie Brown Up In The Air-Finally!

Snoopy has always been a regular fixture during Macy's Parade, but for some reason, Charlie Brown inflatables were unheard of- until now. We're not sure why but fans were definitely excited to see him.
